---These all came in as MP3 downloads. So far I have eschewed incorporating music obtained from MP3 downloads (eMusic, Amazon, podcasts, etc. -- all legit, natch), but an increasing proportion of the music I am acquiring is coming from these sources. Regular CDs probably contain plenty of MP3 material uploaded to WAV files anyway, but I -- rightly or wrongly -- still regard the two as separate things. The sound, though, is hard for me to distinguish. When I burn my MP3s to CD they sound about as good through my sound system as do regular CDs. So there hardly seems much reason to exclude MP3-derived material from my compilations. Indeed, opening up the compilations to MP3s means a wider range of material can be brought in. Typically CDs I buy will be more carefully chosen than things I can download for free or for a pittance. This is changing now that so many CDs are becoming overstock cut-outs, but the outcome either way has become quite a burgeoning of affordably available music. It is great for making new discoveries, but I've gone way overboard in my acquisitiveness. When Archivists Anonymous starts forming chapters, I will have to become a charter member.
